Between Entitlement and Exclusion: MGNREGA Implementation and the Transition in Araria, Bihar

As part of the Social Impact Design Fellowship 2026, this project examines the gap between the statutory guarantees of MGNREGA and the lived experiences of workers in Sikti Block, Araria, Bihar. The study highlights persistent challenges in accessing guaranteed employment, timely wage payments, and basic worksite facilities, alongside the structural and administrative barriers that prevent workers from accessing their entitlements. It also draws attention to the consequences of delayed wages and gaps in social protection for rural households.

These findings have been translated into a carousel post, using visual communication to make the research accessible and highlight the gap between policy guarantees and their implementation on the ground. The project underscores the need for stronger accountability and more effective delivery of rural employment and social protection measures.
