Grassroots Leaders
Tracking women’s public participation
India has a strong history of grassroots movements and leadership, where local communities have led the way regarding issues of local development, education, economy and politics. With this tracker, SPRF seeks to highlight the notable work being done by Women Grassroots Leaders across the country in the fields of Education, Health, Agriculture, Gender Rights, Economic Empowerment, Child Welfare, Labour Rights, Sanitation, and others. As India completes 75 years of independence, we trace Indian women’s active participation, mobilisation, and leadership in the public domain. More specifically, how they tackle complex social issues while advancing women’s rights across the country. The data has been gathered using secondary research and will be further updated with in-depth interviews, articles and essays highlighting the work of Women Grassroots Leaders in India.
