The Evolution, Management and Development of the Indian Welfare State

Overview: SPRF India, a forward-thinking think tank based in New Delhi, is spearheading an insightful exploration into the Indian welfare state. This project delves into the diverse welfare strategies enacted by state and central governments, examining the political landscapes that shaped significant welfare institutions and their subsequent management.

Key Objectives:

  • Analyze the role of Non-Special Category (NSC) states in the evolution of welfare.
  • Conduct comparative studies on welfare indicators across various states.
  • Highlight the socio-economic, gender, caste, and geographical factors affecting welfare distribution.

Outputs: The project will yield comprehensive trackers and reports, coupled with engaging data visualizations designed for the SPRF website and social media. Supplemental activities include interviews, webinars, and multimedia presentations to foster public engagement.

Leadership: Led by Yashoroop Dey, Research Lead, with support from Alice Tobias, Communications Associate at SPRF.

Internship Opportunity: SPRF is offering internships for students from Shiv Nadar University to actively participate in this project. The internship provides a monthly stipend and is open to final-year undergraduates and first-year master’s students with a keen interest in public policy.
